Hardback Post It Books - Tutorial

I'm gonna show you how to make some of these easy hardback post it books.  They make perfect gifts for co-workers & teachers.  They are great to keep in your purse or car for quick notes.

Supplies needed:

Thin cardboard box, I reused a cereal box

Designer paper

Cardstock

Adhesive

Paper cutter

Corner Rounder

Bone folder or butter knife

ribbon

small pen

Cut your cardboard down to 3.5" x 3.5" then round the corners.  Cut 2 of them.

Cut your designer paper at 4.5" x 4.5".  Cut 2 of them.

Apply adhesive to the back of your cardboard.  It doesn't matter what side is up or down, you won't be able to see either side when you are finished.

Stick to the back of the designer paper and trace the outer edge of the cardboard with a bone folder.  If you don't have a bone folder a butter knife works fine too.  Mine is actually the tool that comes with my score board.

Apply adhesive to the outer edge of the cardboard.  I made marks so you can see where exactly I applied the adhesive.

Fold in the corners right at the edge of the cardboard.  Then apply a little adhesive to the little corner that my finger is pointing to.  Please ignore my 1/2 painted fingernail.  I need to remove that nail polish now.

Fold in the straight edges.

Repeat those steps to the other piece of cardboard.  This should be what your pieces look like.

Cut your cardstock down to 3.25" x 6.75".  You will only need 1 of these.

Score your cardstock at 3.25" from the to ends.  I use my cutter to score things like this.  It's just easier.

It should look like this. 

Round those corners.

Apply adhesive around the edges.  

I also applied a stripe of adhesive across the center for some ribbon.  This part is completely optional.

You'll do 1 side at a time, apply the adhered side to the messy side of your covered cardboard, centering it as best you can.

Repeat this step on the other side minus the ribbon.

It should look like this.

Add your sticky notes...

close, tie your bow and add a mini gel pen.  I think I found these gel pens at Micheal's in packs of 4.  If it wasn't Micheal's it was Dollar Tree.

If you chose not to apply the ribbon as I instructed in this tutorial you can just tie some around the outside of the book.  I hope you enjoy!

Paper Heart Links Garland Tutorial

Is it too early for Valentine's Day decor?  I don't think so!  I'm going to share a very simple tutorial to create this super cute paper heart link garland.  Please for give my photography skills... or lack of skills, this picture doesn't even give the garland justice!

SUPPLIES
2 sheets of 12x12 patterned paper
scissors
a paper cutter (optional of course, it just made the job a little faster for me)

cut your 2 sheets of paper into 3 inch strips

then cut your 12x3 strips into 3x3 squares until you get this.

Then you want to fold one square in half like so...

And follow the template below to cut a heart out of the creased paper

And it will look like this

Then repeat the process on the heart that you already cut out so that you just have the outline of a heart.

Until you have as many as you want on your garland.

Next you are going to cut the bottom center so that it opens up the heart.

Link them together

And glue the ends together.

And there you have it!

I added my small link above my doily garland on my living room window.  You can of course increase the size of your hearts and create a much larger dramatic chain which I think would make a CUTE banner for a Valentine's dinner party.

Fabric Covered Baby Food Jars - Tutorial

Materials

Baby food jars

scrap fabric (enough to fit around)

Mod Podge

Triple Thick Brilliant Brush-On Gloss Glaze

Paint Brush

Twine

Hot glue gun

Cut the fabric to fit the baby food jar, paint a layer of Mod Podge onto the outside of the baby food jar, place the fabric over it and smooth it out.

Add another layer of Mod Podge over the fabric.

Let dry.

Paint a coat of Triple Thick Gloss Glaze over the fabric.

Let dry.

I allowed mine to dry over night.

Hot glue the twine around the top and bottom of the baby food jar.

The top is pretty simple.  I just glued the end, wrapped around about 7 times and then glued the other end down.  Wrap it tightly and it should stay in place well.

The bottom calls for a little more time and effort.

I turned the baby food jar over, tide a knot in the twine and hot glued it to the center.  I then started wrapping the twine around the knot gluing as I went until I got to up on the outer walls like I wanted.

Use them to store small craft supplies (buttons, brads, etc.) or place a small tea light or votive candle inside for a candle holder!
